How does the Tempest goggle combat fogging?
Fogging happens when the warm moist air inside the goggle condenses on the cool surface of the inner lens. To prevent this from happening, the Tempest goggle features a state of the art heated inner lens which prevents condensation (fogging) from occurring. The lens is heated by way of an electrical current that travels across the entire surface of the lens and warms the lens up. The goggle contains a small rechargeable battery that provides the heating power.
How is the battery recharged?
The Tempest goggle features a USB-C charging port. The USB port is covered with a water tight cap to prevent moisture from entering the goggle electronics. Any conventional USB wall charger rated for 10W or better will work as well as any USB port on a sled or automobile. A four segment LED display indicates the charging progress.
Is the battery removable?
The battery is not removable and must be re-charged using a USB charger and the provided USB-C charging cable.
How long does the battery last?
The runtime between charges will vary heavily depending on a number of factors including airflow, ambient humidity levels, the activity level, perspiration level, and breathing tendencies of the wearer. Riders will typically get between 2 and 3 days of use per charge and even better in some circumstances.
How is the goggle controlled?
The tempest goggle is fully automatic and will turn itself on and off as needed without user intervention. As such there are no on/off buttons or modes of operation to worry about.
What is the difference between the Tempest "OG" and the Tempest "Infinity"?
The Tempest Infinity features an infinity (rimless) lens aesthetic and the OG features more of a classic lens frame look. All other aspects of the two styles are identical.
What is the difference between the Snowmobile and Ski/Snowboarding goggles?
The snowmobile goggles feature a nose guard and modified strap attachment outriggers which most people prefer when using a snowmobile helmet. All other aspects are the same.
Are the Infinity and OG lenses interchangeable?
Yes. The Infinty and OG lenses are fully interchangeable with all Tempest Snowmobile and Ski chassis.
What are the lens VLT ratings?
Note that the VLT (Visible Light Transmission) ratings are the same for both the OG and Infinity style lenses.
What are the best lenses for "flat lighting"?
Flat light is a common condition in which it becomes very hard to see features on the surface of the snow. This phenomenon presents a challenge to the rider because hazards in the terrain become difficult to identify. The Tempest lenses that perform best in these conditions are the yellow and rose tints. The green mirror lens is also a good choice in that it features a rose tint seen by the wearer.
What is the best way to store the Tempest goggles?
The most important aspect of goggle storage is to avoid storing it when wet. While storing when wet will not harm the goggle, there is the possibility that the goggle lens heating system will consume power as it attempts to combat humidity. This in turn will consume battery charge. For this reason it's best to avoid storing the goggle in high humidity spaces or in its case when wet.
What is the best way to clean the Tempest goggle lenses?
To clean any of the lens surfaces, it is highly recommended to use a commonly available lens cleaning solution and a soft lens cloth like the one provided with the goggle. Gentle wiping is essential to avoid scratching the lens surfaces.
Can I wear my prescription glasses with snow goggles?
The Tempest goggle is not an OTG (over the glasses) goggle. To make possible the use of prescription lenses, Tempest Optics has partnered with SportRX to make available a prescription lens insert that fits within the goggle chassis. Be sure to select Tempest as the goggle brand to get the correct insert.
Does Tempest ship outside of the USA?
Tempest ships to the USA (excl. Hawaii) and to Canada. Shipping to most places in the United States and Canada is free. Additional "shipping" charges (duties and taxes) will apply to all shipments to Canada and must be paid by the customer.
Does Tempest accept special dual lens combination, and/or strap combination orders not shown on the website?
"Dual Lens" packages and lens/strap combinations are only available as shown in the website store. Additional lenses and straps can be purchased at reasonable prices.
What is the warranty/return policy for your snow goggles?
At Tempest Optics, we offer a one year warranty against mechanical and electrical failures. In addition, a goggle can be returned for a full refund if in unused condition and within 30 days of the purchase date. In the case of return, the customer must pay for return shipping given that Tempest pays for initial shipping.
Tech Tips
Good things to know about your Tempest Goggle
Anatomy of Fogging
There are different types of fogging in the world of goggles but the most problematic type happens on the inside surface of the inner lens when warm moist air inside the goggle air space condenses on the lens surface thereby destroying your vision. The Tempest anti-fog system combats this issue directly by heating the lenses surface and preventing condensation from happening in the first place.
Pressure Equalization valve
The Tempest goggle contains a small air valve located as a white dot on the goggle's inner lens surface. The purpose of this valve is to allow air (but not moisture) to travel into and out of the air space between the outer and inner lenses. This prevents physical distortions from happening to the lens when moving from low to high elevations and vice versa. When cleaning the inner lens surface, care should be taken not to remove the little white dot.
Battery Charging
The Tempest goggle can be charged with any USB charger with a rating of at least 2A or 10W. Avoid using low-power chargers such as the smallest iPhone chargers, as they may not provide the necessary output. All USB-C style chargers will work as well as most USB ports found on sleds or automobiles.
Strap Removal
The Tempest goggle straps are very easy to remove and replace. Look for the small slot where the plastic end of the strap meets the chassis. Insert a finger nail or small screw driver where shown below and simply pull out the strap.
