FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Tempest goggle combat fogging?

Fogging happens when the warm moist air inside the goggle condenses on the cool surface of the inner lens. To prevent this from happening, the Tempest goggle features a state of the art heated inner lens which prevents condensation (fogging) from occurring. The lens is heated by way of an electrical current that travels across the entire surface of the lens and warms the lens up. The goggle contains a small rechargeable battery that provides the heating power.

How long does the battery last?

The runtime between charges will vary heavily depending on a number of factors including airflow, ambient humidity levels, the activity level, perspiration level, and breathing tendencies of the wearer. Riders will typically get between 1 and 3 days of use per charge and even better in some circumstances.

How is the battery recharged?

The Tempest goggle features a USB-C charging port. The USB port is covered with a water tight cap to prevent moisture from entering the goggle electronics. Any conventional USB wall charger rated for 10W or better will work as well as any USB port on a sled or automobile. A four segment LED display indicates the charging progress.

Is the battery removable?

The goggle battery is built into the chassis and is not removable. Battery removal is unnecessary given how long a single charge lasts and given that it can be charged over 500 times and still maintain the ability to keep you fog free all day long.

How is the goggle controlled?

The tempest goggle is fully automatic and will turn itself on and off as needed without user intervention. As such there are no on/off buttons or modes of operation to worry about.

What is the best lens for flat lighting?

Flat light is a common condition in which it becomes very hard to see features on the surface of the snow. This phenomenon presents a challenge to the rider because hazards in the terrain become difficult to identify. The Tempest lenses that perform best in these conditions are the yellow and rose tints. The green mirror lens is also a good choice in that it features a rose tint seen by the wearer.

What is the best way to store the Tempest goggles?

The most important aspect of goggle storage is to avoid storing it when wet. While storing when wet will not harm the goggle, there is the possibility that the goggle lens heating system will consume power as it attempts to combat humidity. This in turn will consume battery charge. For this reason it's best to hang-dry the goggle before placing it in its case.

What is the best way to clean the Tempest goggle lenses?

To clean any of the lens surfaces, it is highly recommended to use a commonly available lens cleaning solution and a soft lens cloth like the one provided with the goggle. Gentle wiping is essential to avoid scratching the lens surfaces.

Can I wear my prescription glasses with snow goggles?

The Tempest goggle is not an OTG (over the glasses) goggle. To make possible the use of prescription lenses, Tempest Optics has partnered with SportRX to make available a prescription lens insert that fits within the goggle chassis.

What is the warranty policy for your snow goggles?

At Tempest Optics, we offer a one year warranty against mechanical and electrical failures. In addition, a goggle can be returned for a full refund if in unused condition and within 30 days of the purchase date.
